Egypt : High levels of pollution reduce Egypt’s competitive opportunities and investments, said Chairman of the Egyptian Federation of Industries Mohamed el-Swedi during the Sustainable Building Conference and Exhibition on Wednesday.
Swedi also called for using renewable energy, which he considered more feasible economically than non-renewable sources, which are sold at a higher cost and likely to run out sooner or later.
He added that these types of changes require collaboration between the public and private sectors, along with academics, in order to achieve sustainable development through using technology.
“This technology should actually provide added values, and maintain the environment for a better future for the coming generations,” he said.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the FEI called for reducing pollution levels to be able to compete locally and internationally, which will attract more investments.
Egypt has a great consumption rate, and is capable of activating any investment, he said.
Additionally, Egypt has memberships in many international economic coalitions, in addition to skills and manpower that would put the country on the right track, according to Swedi.
The Sustainable Building Conference and Exhibition was organized by the German- Egyptian Chamber, along with Ain-Shams University and the German University in Cairo.
