Like many Egyptians, I am astonished that the discussions of the 50-member committee, tasked with amending the constitution, are not broadcasted to the public to allow the Egyptian people to express their opinions on their constitution.
Drafting a new constitution requires more explanations and interpretations that should be broadcasted to prepare the people for the referendum.
Although the 50-member committee provided many legal reasons for not broadcasting its sessions, it is necessary for the committee to allow broadcasting the sessions to meet the standards of transparency and to show respect to the Egyptian people.
We should be privy to the positions adopted by the different parties and currents participating in the committee, as they should bear responsibility for their positions before the Egyptian people.
I do not believe that the chairperson of the committee or its members are trying to avoid appearances on television, as fame is one of the main motives that prompts people to participate in public work, especially in our country.
