AIDS-related deaths Increasing among teenagers in the world by 50%
According to a report published by the United Nations Fund for Children ( UNICEF ) announced today that the number of deaths associated with the HIV virus that causes AIDS among adolescents in all parts of the world increased by 50% during the period from 2005 to 2012, which shows an alarming trend .
The report found that while 71 received a thousand people between the ages of 10-19 years, died in 2005 , the number increased to 110 thousand in 2012. The report's authors attributed this to a lack of facilities that provide testing and counseling for young people .
In light of the report's findings , UNICEF recommended providing investments to 5.5 billion dollars by 2014 to avoid injuring two million teenager with the virus in the coming years .
In contrast , the report revealed a decline rate of infection among infants who transmitted the AIDS virus to them by their mothers.
The number of infants who HIV infection has reached 540 thousand in 2005 , but thanks to prevention programs for pregnant and lactating women infected with HIV , the number dropped to 260 thousand in 2012 .
