Bassem Youssef: Authorities did not stop El Bernameg |
CAIRO: Bassem Youssef stated that the authorities had no hand in stopping his show on CBC, in an interview with Yusri Fouda on ONTV on Wednesday.
He added that he was nominated for the International Press Freedom Award before June 30, stating that the last episode of El Bernameg was not the reason behind receiving the award.
Bassem Youssef stated that he does believe that the Egyptian authorities had no hand in stopping his show, pointing out that his fans and opponents used to watch El Bernameg during the Muslim Brotherhood‘s time in power.
Bassem Youssef rejected the statement issued by CBC, noting that a show has never been stopped ten minutes before it was scheduled to be broadcast. He considered it a personal insult, making it very difficult for the show to return to the channel.
Bassem Youssef pointed out that he is waiting to be called by the Public Prosecution for investigations into the accusations against him, considering this to be an insult to both the people and judiciary. He stated, “These investigations are a great embarrassment, I had hoped that they would not be subjected to this position.”
