CAIRO: The Russian parliament approved the formation of a council for the Russian-Egyptian relations, and a Russian parliamentary delegation will visit Egypt once an Egyptian parliament is elected, Judge Ahmed al-Fadaly, general coordinator of the Independence Current, said during a press conference at the Independence Current headquarters on Sunday.
The outcome of the popular diplomatic delegation that returned from Russian on Saturday was largely satisfactory, said Fadaly, who was a member of the delegation. The Nov. 14 visit of the Russian ministers of defense and foreign affairs will precede visits of higher-level officials, he added.
“We and Egypt are in the same trench,” the chairman of the Russian parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee said in Arabic at the Russian Parliament, which was followed by rapturous applause, according to Fadaly. Moreover, the Russian news agency devoted a full day to interviewing the delegation’s members.
The delegation also met with former Russian prime minister and deputy minister of foreign affairs and managed to create a framework for joint cooperation, Fadaly said.
The Russian officials expressed their support for the roadmap announced on July 3 and said the upcoming visit of the Russian ministers aims at deepening political, economic, military, and tourist relations, he added.
According to Fadaly, the Russian officials said the “terrorist” attacks Egypt is experiencing are not exceptional to it, but are rather a global phenomenon and will not affect the turnout of Russian tourists who will flow to Egypt once the curfew is lifted on Nov. 14.
The delegation’s visit aimed at rebalancing the Egyptian foreign relations, regardless of the Egyptian-US relations, Fadaly said, adding that the visit was not directed against the US or any other power, but was rather aimed at Egyptian interests.
“The relations with Russia will experience a major turning point on the historical and cultural levels, and the awaited visit of the ministers will push the Egyptian-Russian relations forward,” said Fadaly.
“The Independence Current will organize yet another historic visit to China in a few days in coordination with the Chinese Communist Party and Council of Ministers, as well as other visits to United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait,” he added.
