CAIRO: The FIFA World Cup Trophy left here on Sunday to continue its tour of the countries qualified for the World Cup Championship 2014.

The World Cup is expected to be celebrated in a number of African countries including Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.

The trophy arrived in Cairo on Thursday, as part of a 267-day world tour of 90 countries.

The trophy was received by a host of celebrities and government officials who had the pleasure of getting up close with the 6.17 kilogram, 18-carat gold icon.

Minister of Sports Taher Abu Zeid, Minister of Civil Aviation Abdel Aziz Fadel and a galaxy of media men and journalists celebrated the FIFA trophy at the Giza Pyramids plateau in a festive and historic event.

This is the second time the trophy comes to Egypt. The first time was in 2010.
