CAIRO: The protest law will raise a great deal of controversy and will aggravate distension between political forces, said Ahmed Hosni, the director of the political bureau of the Revolutionary Youth Coalition, on Thursday.

Hosni told Youm7 that the law would increase the political disorder the country is facing, especially among those who suffered from chaos and violence following protests.

Furthermore, he said that the timing of the protest law is “wrong and inconvenient” especially since it may lead to confrontation.

“It was better to stay with the penalties’ law and to issue the protest law in the coming parliament after holding a social dialogue about it,” he added.

He added that the protest law with its current form ignores notes from political forces and the National Council of Human Rights, especially since it contradicts the article of the constitution that guarantees the right to protest.

“The protest law is just a political coating to suppress freedoms,” he said.
