Girls demonstrations against sexual harassment

SUEZ: The Tomorrow youth movement organized a bicycle ride in Suez on Friday, titled “Bescletta,” to denounce sexual harassment.

 Bescletta aimed to raise the youth’s awareness about harassment, in addition to emphasizing the role of women in society and their rights.

 “The idea is simply a kind of revolution on the mold imposed by society for girls after the seventies, which considers any deviation a crime and the girl must be punished,” Coordinator of Tomorrow Marwa Radwan told Youm7.

 She added that sexual harassment has become a means used by society to punish the girls who violate the traditional mold.

 The ride lasted for two hours and its participants, mostly comprised of young women, made a one kilometer round on the Cornishe Road. A number of political activistsand revolutionary movements from Suez also participated in Bescletta.

 Radwan also added that the ride was a way to restore girls’ confidence in themselves and promote sports for women.
